Budokan Judo Club Achievements 2001
Club Achievements and Development - Sept 00 to Sept 01
Budokan Judo Club Inc has been managed in a professional manner with its method of operation closely aligned with common business practices. However, the main aim is to provide a disciplined but caring and educational environment on which to build a large Judo community.
Since September 2000, Budokan:
- Had 12 (at that time, 50%) of its members involved in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games - Rob and Kerrye in roles as already described above, Ivor Endicott-Davies as IJF Liaison, Barbara Stratford as Field of Play Marshall, Di Pendlebury as Athlete Escort, Renee and Levi Pendlebury as Field of Play Runners, Dale Keogh as Athlete Usher (Paralympics), Morgan Endicott-Davies as Competition Management Driver, Yvonne Mitchell as a Training Site assistant and a "demonstration" athlete during rehearsals, Daphne Pothin as Training Site assistant, and Jenny Gunther as a "demonstration" athlete during rehearsals.
- had international success with Morgan Endicott-Davies and Yvonne Mitchell selected as Olympic Games Shadow Team members. Best results were Yvonne achieving a 5th in the 2000 Korean Cup, and also competing in Fukuoka and Morgan a 5th in the 2001 Pacific Rim, also selected for the 2001 Korean Cup, and reserve for the 2001 World Championships. Masters athlete, Dale Keogh returned from the 2001 World Masters Games with 2 Gold medals. Frankie Serrano also represented Australia in both the World Championships and the World University Games, and sister Julia was selected to represent Australia at the 2001 Korean Cup and at Fukuoka.
- achieved it's first Senior National Champion (Morgan, 81kg), its first Junior National Champion (Patrick Waite, 46kg), and two other medallists at Senior Nationals (Yvonne Mitchell, 57kg - 3rd, and Julia Serrano, 48kg - 2nd). Senior National Champion 60kg, Frankie Serrano joined the club later in the year as did Junior National Champion 70kg, Jessica Malone.
- formed a Club Committee structure with an approved constitution and is now an incorporated club with the Dept. of Fair Trading,
- has the basis of a strategic plan with 7 working groups,
- has developed a "New Members Starter Information Pack",
- replaced its 160sqm mat area by obtaining sponsorship enabling purchase of mats from the Olympic Games legacy,
- has a merchandising strategy selling Judo suits, and club T-shirts and key rings incorporating Budokan's new Judo-Dinosaur logo,
- worked with media during the last 12 months to achieve numerous articles in the local newspapers, in Fight Times magazine, has an active Newsletter distributed electronically to over 300 email addressees, and a website

The MonSters tournament was a great success..... - has been involved in local schools Judo development programs, and has performed numerous demonstrations in the local area,
- establishing an open Elite Training session which has now converted to an officially funded State-run National Squad Training session,
- established itself on the 2002 State calendar by hosting a Mons event on the 29th September
