INTERNATIONAL & REPRESENTATIONAL UPDATE - Asian Open (Hong Kong 9th – 10th December)

Nathan, Josh and Kyle competed in the Asian Open, held in Hong Kong.Josh fought Lee (KOR) and lost by 2 Waza-Aris and Ippon. Some contention over an unorthodox grip being allowed by the KOR making it difficult for Josh to attack or defend.Nathan fought Yang (TPE) and with no scores at the end of normal time, the match went into golden score in which he lost by Shido.Kyle’s first match was against Macau in which he scored Ippon from Uchi-Mata. His second match was against Canada which he lost, and then in repechage he lost to Poland for a 7th place. So this ended the year of international competitions for our guys, Nathan and Josh somewhat disappointed with the way it ended, but with lessons learned and significant progress evident in their overall development. A break at home over Christmas to refresh and some training saw a good preparation to what will be a better 2018 starting with the international training camp at Mittersill Austria in early January followed by the African Grand Prix. Kyle’s 7th placing in Hong Kong capped off a good couple of competitions for him with his win in the Oceania Open in Vanuatu in November. His break over Christmas and some training also sees Kyle doing the Austrian camp followed by some training in Europe and the Belgian Open. At the time of writing this Newsletter, the boys have already left Australia. We wish them all well for the camp and for their respective competitions.
