PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Published Tue 13 Oct 2026

Hi to all Budokanis and welcome to our new members – we hope that you are enjoying your Judo experience at Budokan.

September and October have flown by and there has been a lot of activity both on and off the mat since the Commonwealth Games and the Cadet and Junior Asian Cup events. We have a number of projects occurring simultaneously and they are all progressing well:

  • To install a new club management tool(Gymdesk) to manage training fees, Judo NSW membership, membership profiles, class attendances, etc. Many decisions relating to the following points will need to be made during the transition to the new system, anticipated to be early next year.

  • The Club Sustainability Project was covered in some detail in the last Newsletter. Included in this project is:

  • to build a new training fee structure

  • review all business rules around membership, athlete and coach support, to align the club more strategically and realistically in the Judo community

  • to build a new structure of coach honorariums to promote club sustainability and incentivise our best coaches and athletes to take on coaching roles in the club

  • to continue our risk management strategy development

A small group of athletes and coaches also attended the last of the Judo Australia event series competitions with the Queensland International Open held in conjunction with the National Schools Championships recently. We have some great news about more international selections for our athletes coming up.

Importantly, we have our second Budokan Mons and Juniors (U/11s) competition at the club on Sunday 18th October – please reserve this date and support the club in any way you can. Setup will be 17th October.

Finally, the email attaching this newsletter has another attachment with notification of the club’s Annual General Meeting to be held on the 2nd November – yes, it’s that time of year already. Please also reserve the 10th December for the club’s annual Awards Night.

Important information in this newsletter. Lots to read - enjoy!!
